2010 Corolla
Toyota has recently update the Corolla in Europe, and considering that the Corolla has so far shared the same looks as the Corolla Altis in Thailand, there is every reason to expect that the Altis will get a similar facelift in the coming months.
But, this is a bit like a facelift that has gone wrong, and the result is not a prettier car. In fact, the objective with most of these exercises seems to be to just try and add a little extra complexity to the look of the lights, and grille. In this case, this means an extra curve to the headlamps, a tacked on reflector to the base of the tail lights, and an arguably ugly grille.
On the inside, the European car has a new steering wheel, which is now flat bottomed, and very similar in design to the new Vios, and the forthcoming Wish models.
But the European car is appointed differently to the Asian models at present, so the interior will probably not deviate much from the current Thai model.
Perhaps the most important aspect of this news item is the fact that this is a mid-life facelift, which means that we are years and years away from a replacement to the Altis. This segment now has several very interesting options with the recent arrival of the all-new Mitsubishi Lancer, and with the prospect of fresh competition from the Chevrolet Cruze, the Altis isn't really looking strong enough to keep pace with the market.
